With my animated series Cold Trouble, I am exploring simulations of power, wealth, violence and desire across virtual spaces – representations that reflect and often produce our experience of ourselves and the lives around us. I am pursuing a path begun by Harun Farocki, before his untimely death. With his Parallel I-IV (2012-2014) Farocki traced the history of imaging technologies from simulation techniques to CGI and computer vision. Like Farocki, I am examining the processes of production in order to expose the social-political-economic and environmental conditions that both support and depend upon these digital icon-ideals. I aim to critique the rotation of antagonism and anxiety that flows through the emotional terrain of computational models and investigate the larger social imaginary with the hope that my critique contributes to building a vision of a more compassionate future.
