Artist statement:
Kayci Monar has always been interested in the relationship between human life and nature. She is excited by the ways we perceive nature–with awe or fear, discomfort or familiarity. These more psychological ideas are expressed through morphing the human figure with landscapes or wildlife. Integrating the human figure with nature provides a visual of the connection she believes we all share with nature. She currently focuses on ocean life in an effort to show the connection we have to the sea, especially considering the climate and human-related stresses ocean life is currently facing.
